Nude makeup is super chic for this time of the year, but everyone’s nude is different, hence my confusion when Google presents nude lipstick as a strange powdery or greyish pink that makes most people’s lips look dead or ridiculous. Or both. Nude makeup is essentially makeup that suits your skin tone. So don’t be afraid to try anything from a spectrum of warm pinks to deep browns. Use across lips and eyes and, voilà, you are ready to step into autumn.

I can’t do without… A soothing and silky aluminium- free deodorant that’s on a rollWhat deodorant do you use? Is that an odd question? Perhaps. I thought the same when I was asked. Well, actually it wasn’t quite that question – more a horrified look at the thing I was spraying under my arms at the time. Back then, I happily used whatever was available, until I started to get lumps under my arms. This reaction turned out to be nothing to worry about, but health concerns around aluminium in deodorants made me rethink what I was putting under my arms. I sought options within the natural deodorant category, but found them ugly and useless; most don’t work and are best avoided. More recently there has been a wave of deodorants that have pushed the boundaries of how a natural, aluminium-free deodorant shows up in the world. And many smell as good as a fabulous perfume. Case in point, the Polygonum Roll On Deodorant from To My Ships. It is excellent – and not just at holding back sweat (sorry, I know that sounds grim), but at feeling like skincare for underarms. It calms and protects the skin barrier and is gentle enough to work on sensitive or shaved underarms. And it has the most beautiful green citrusy scent that also comes in a spray version. I am so enamoured of it that the prosaic act of putting on deodorant is now a daily source of joy. So I ask again, what deodorant do you use? Might be worth a change.
