France’s Socialist Party has threatened to derail budget talks over Prime Minister François Bayrou’s controversial migration remarks.
Bayrou sparked outrage by saying France was experiencing an immigration “flooding,” which he later defended in parliament. Critics, including left-wing leaders, accused him of echoing far-right rhetoric.
With crucial budget negotiations set for Thursday, the Socialists canceled a meeting with the government, and leader Boris Vallaud hinted at a possible no-confidence vote. Losing their support would be a major blow to Bayrou’s already fragile administration.
