Airlines cancel flights, airports close as Hurricane Milton bears down

U.S. airlines are making preparations for the impact of Hurricane Milton on Florida on Wednesday. Cancellations for flights on Tuesday number more than 1,000 and for Wednesday already 1,728 flights have been cancelled, led by expected disruption at Orlando International Airport, Tampa International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport, and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Southwest Airlines has already cancelled 402 flights on Wednesday, which is about 11% of its full U.S. schedule, per data from FlightAware. Delta Air Lines has cancelled 207 flights, American Airlines has cancelled 196 flights, and JetBlue has cancelled 154 flights. On a percentage basis, Allegiant Air will feel the biggest impact, with 64% of its cancellations for Wednesday and 12% already scratched for Thursday.
