Liam Payne’s body returns to the UK for funeral

-

Nearly a month after his untimely passing, Liam Payne’s body is set to be returned to the U. K on Wednesday, as reported by the BBC.

The funeral for the dad-of-one and former One Direction band member will likely occur later in the week, almost a month after his heart-wrenching death. Liam tragically lost his life at age 31 on October 16 after a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A private ceremony to commemorate the X Factor alum is being planned subsequent to various tributes by fans globally in recent weeks. BBC sources have confirmed that Liam’s body will be transported back to the U.K on Wednesday (November 6). While in Argentina, more tests, including toxicology and laboratory examinations, were conducted.

His body was released on Wednesday, public prosecutor Andres Madrea communicated to the national broadcaster. Amidst this tragedy, Liam’s devastated father Geoff Payne has stayed in Argentina, reports the Mirror.

Last month’s autopsy indicated that Liam died because of “multiple traumas” and “internal and external haemorrhage”. Meanwhile, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No 16 currently deems the case an “inconclusive death”.

Liam’s remains were transferred from a Buenos Aires morgue to the historic British Cemetery in the city, following his father Geoff’s authorization from prosecutors. The reputable Argentinian newspaper La Nacion reported that Geoff was told by chief prosecutor Andres Madrea that he could bring Liam’s body back to the UK for a funeral next week, after arriving in Argentina post his son’s fatal hotel fall.

The paper noted: “All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week. When Geoff Payne reached Argentina on October 18 he was told the repatriation process could take between four and five days, but because of the circumstances surrounding his son’s death things took longer than expected.”

Meanwhile, Argentinian police have conducted more raids related to the late singer’s death, with TMZ reporting that officers searched the homes of two hotel employees and a ‘friend’ of Liam on Tuesday night. They also examined the hotel workers’ lockers and reviewed security footage from the CasaSur Palermo hotel, where Liam had his fatal balcony fall on October 16.

A ‘friend’ of the singer was also identified through text messages, and authorities are investigating who might have supplied the drugs. The ‘friend’ in question was not present during the raid.

This follows a previous raid at the hotel last month where electronic records, paper documents, and videos of the hotel’s underground area were seized. A post-mortem examination revealed that Liam died from head injuries sustained during his fall.
