US Congress Bans Staff From Using Chinese AI Chatbot DeepSeek

Share

The United State Congress has banned the members of staff from using the DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot that has been gaining traction in the U.S. AI market.

According to a notice obtained by Axios, the House’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) has flagged DeepSeek as a potential security risk and placed it under official review. Until further evaluation is completed, the chatbot is deemed unauthorized for use by congressional offices.

The CAO’s notice specifically warns that malicious actors have already begun exploiting DeepSeek to deliver harmful software and compromise devices. To prevent security breaches, the House has implemented restrictions on DeepSeek’s use across all House-issued devices.

To mitigate risks, congressional staffers are explicitly prohibited from installing DeepSeek on phones, computers and tablets. These restrictions are part of a broader strategy to secure government systems against potential cyber threats associated with AI tools.
