As Donald Trump prepares to begin his second four-year term, one cruise company is giving Americans the choice to opt out and escape.
The residential cruise line Villa Vie Residences announced earlier in November that it was launching a program that will allow travelers to join its ship, the Odyssey, at any port as it traverses around the world for the next several years. The trip is expected to travel to 425 ports across 140 countries, and the program will cost less than $40,000 a year, according to a company statement.
The program is being offered in one-, two-, three-, and four-year packages. The one-year package is called Escape From Reality and the two-year package is called Mid-term Selection. The three-year package is called Anywhere but Home and the four-year package is called Skip Forward. The trip includes stops in the Caribbean, South America and an Antarctic sail-by.
Villa Vie’s CEO, Mikael Petterson, told the news outlet WFLA in Fort Lauderdale that the company put together the program before the results of the presidential election were announced. But the cruise package could be a good option for those who were unhappy with the results, he said.
“Although the campaign was put together before the results of the election, we feel we have a perfect product for those who said they’d leave the country if XYZ wins the election,” he said in a statement. “We had two groups watch election parties onboard where half the community watched Fox News on one end of the ship while the other half watched MSNBC on the other. We may have differing political views, but our community comes together through our passion for exploring the world in a very real way that goes far beyond politics.”

While it’s not clear if Americans actually will leave the country due to Trump’s presidential victory, advisers to high-net worth families told CNBC ahead of the election that they were fielding many queries from wealthy clients about how to move abroad.
