Elon Musk’s comments to a German far-right party, suggesting that Germans should not focus on their Nazi past, have raised serious concerns about the safety of American Jews and Jews worldwide, according to a prominent US Jewish advocate.
Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), expressed her deep worry about the security of Jews globally. “Speaking as a deeply concerned American Jew, I am deeply concerned about the security of American Jews, and of Jews worldwide, given our president’s clear alignment with dangerous right-wing extremists,” Soifer told the Guardian.
Musk, the world’s richest person and owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, has been a major donor to Donald Trump’s campaign and is now a close advisor with an office in the White House.
In a video address to the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, Musk defended German culture and values, arguing that children should not be held responsible for the sins of their ancestors and emphasizing the need to move past feelings of historical guilt.
Soifer said: “The salute, the message to the AfD, the fact that he is willing to joke about the criticism he is getting, it all demonstrates that [those around Trump] are unwilling to recognize how dangerous their words and actions are.
