A man is fighting for life in hospital after allegedly being shot twice in the abdomen when a group of intruders entered his home in a small town in rural New South Wales.
Police alleged the 46-year-old man was inside a home in Burns Street in Hillston, about 100km north-west of Griffith in the state’s Riverina region, when three people – one armed with a gun – came inside the house about 2.30am Friday.
Once inside, the man was shot twice in the abdomen before the trio left, police alleged. Two women, aged 31 and 56, were also at the home at the time.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Griffith hospital. He was later airlifted to “a major metropolitan hospital”, police said.
The man was in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said on Friday.
Detectives from the Murrumbidgee police district were investigating the matter in the town, which has a population of about 1,500.
Police are urging those with further information to call Griffith police or Crime Stoppers.
