Victorian police could be forced to charge one of their own after an officer allegedly performed the Nazi salute twice while on duty.
The sergeant allegedly made the banned gesture on Tuesday and Wednesday in front of colleagues.
The force’s professional standards command is investigating the actions of the woman.
She has been suspended with pay.
“As the matter is ongoing, it wouldn’t be appropriate to comment further at this time,” Victoria police said in a statement.
State and federal governments have banned Nazi symbols and gestures following concerns about a rise in antisemitism.
In Victoria, the gesture can still be made in public for genuine academic, artistic, religious or scientific purposes such as a theatre performance or history class.
