The campaign season so far has been atypical and fraught with safety concerns.
Former President Donald Trump suffered a graze wound to his ear during a July 13 assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one attendee died and at least two others were injured. About a week later, President Joe Biden announced he no longer planned to accept the Democratic nomination and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the job. Harris then chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

As campaigning progressed, police would go on to arrest two more armed people who they believed posed a threat to Trump’s safety at different events. One man is accused of pointing a rifle through a tree line on Sept. 15 at Trump’s West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course where the former president was playing. Several weeks later, police arrested a man accused of possessing multiple guns and fake press passes outside of a California Trump rally.
Those developments, however, haven’t kept the candidates from their regular campaign duties. Those include presidential and vice presidential debates and visits to key swing states ahead of the November election.
Here’s a look at what they’re doing today.
