Woman who died after stabbing in Walsall named as Rhiannon Skye Whyte

-

A woman who has died after being stabbed at a railway station in Walsall has been named as Rhiannon Skye Whyte, described as “brave, quirky and funny” in a family tribute.

Whyte, 27, was stabbed at Bescot Stadium railway station, near the homeground of Walsall Football Club, on Sunday and died from her injuries in hospital on Wednesday.

Deng Cholmajek, 18, was charged with attempted murder after the attack and police said they would make an application to amend the charge in light of Whyte’s death. He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Wolverhampton crown court on 19 November.

Police were called to the station at just after 11.25pm on Sunday to reports of a serious assault and found Whyte with serious injuries. She was taken to hospital where she died with her family by her side on Wednesday.

Her family described her as “the most loved daughter, compassionate sister, loving aunty, gracious granddaughter, beautiful niece, wonderful cousin and devoted friend”.

“The most selfless person, you were brave, quirky, funny, and always there for anyone who needed it. There is not enough paper in the world to even begin to write a tribute for you, but no one deserves it more,” they said.

“The weird thing about this devastating loss is that we now need to navigate life without you, but how? If your short life will teach anything it’s to cherish each moment with those you love as tomorrow is never guaranteed.

“You are so strong, a fighter and no matter what happens, we as a family will always be united for you. We will love and miss you for now for always and for ever.”

The senior investigating officer, DCI Paul Attwell, said the stabbing was an isolated incident and the force was not seeking anyone else in connection with it. Anyone with information is urged to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or by texting 61016 quoting 11 of 21 October.
